Sarah Fliszar, regional director of operations for PPL Electric Utilities, is one of our many employees who save by shopping for their electricity supply. Our employees shop, so it’s a good idea for all customers to check out the fixed-price offers at We shop. You can, too. Why pay more than you have to for electricity?

Finding the best deal — it’s something almost all of us do instinctively.

Electricity supply is one of those necessities we need in our lives. Like other products, you can save some money by shopping.

I find the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s website,, makes things easy by helping you sort offers by price and terms. You also have peace of mind, because the listed suppliers are licensed by the PUC.

My preference is a fixed-rate plan because it offers me pricing predictability.

Looking back, I remember my husband’s initial reluctance to shop. Loyal to the utility he knows and trusts, he wanted to stay with the default supply that’s offered to PPL Electric Utilities customers who don’t shop.

We appreciate that loyalty. We hear about it a lot as a reason why customers don’t shop.

But shopping doesn’t hurt PPL. We don’t profit from the electricity supply we purchase for customers who don’t shop — it’s merely a pass-through cost. We encourage all customers to look at the offers – there are often many suppliers offering deals that beat out our default price, or price to compare. Let’s face it: No one wants to miss out on saving money.

What the people of PPL Electric Utilities do best is to provide safe, reliable electric delivery service at a reasonable cost.
