Earn easy money by recycling your old fridge
Did you know you can earn easy money by recycling your old refrigerator? It’s as simple as a phone call or a couple clicks on your computer.
You’ll get $35 when you recycle your old refrigerator or freezer with PPL Electric Utilities, and we’ll pick up it up for free. Regular, full-sized refrigerators and freezers qualify for the program.
Recycling is not only a great way to earn extra cash, but it’s also good for the environment. An extra fridge in your garage or basement can account for more than 20 percent of your energy consumption, according to the Department of Energy. This is because older refrigerators and freezers can use up to four times more energy compared with newer, energy-efficient ENERGY STAR models.
You may not think ditching the old fridge will make a difference, but it truly reduces your carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.
Recycling just one refrigerator or freezer prevents up to 10 tons of carbon dioxide and carbon dioxide equivalent from entering the atmosphere. That is equal to taking two cars off the road for one year!
Not only does recycling your old refrigerator help eliminate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere but it also assists in properly discarding the materials that make up a refrigerator. These materials include metal, plastic and glass and when properly recycled, are made into cell phones, concrete and construction materials.
If you want to take advantage of this program, call 1-877-486-9204 or click here to schedule a free home pickup. Remember that one refrigerator makes all the difference in reducing your carbon footprint.
It’s encouraging to know that people can recycle their old refrigerators. It’s among many things that disturb me to imagine ending up in a landfill. I will probably have a conversation with my family about what we really need. We might just recycle one of ours.
