Beware of scams
Scam artists continue their attempts to dupe customers into giving them money under a bogus threat of immediate termination of their service.
We noticed a recent spike in these attempts and wanted to make you aware of the increased activity.
We do not call and threaten to shut off electric service. And we don’t call customers demanding immediate payments. This is a common tactic of scammers.
Some scam artists also request payment by way of a prepaid debit card. Please note that we do not accept any form of prepaid card for bill payments.
Be sure to report any scam attempts to us at 1-800-342-5775 and also to your local police department.
My Mother (80yr old) says she received a postcard in the mail concerning her power and a contest to win free electricity for a year. I told her it was most likely a scam. She lives in a neighboring community to mine so I have not seen the card yet. It had an 800 no. to call. I told her NOT to call it and to check the no as it compares to pp&l’s. Thought you should be aware.
Thanks for the heads-up on this. This definitely sounds suspicious.
