The world’s biggest athletic showcase begins this week, and we’re proud of the athletes from central and eastern Pennsylvania who will face off against the world’s best.

More than 10,000 athletes from more than 200 nations are expected to compete in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, starting Friday (8/5).

Each of these athletes has trained hard for years to rank among the world’s best, and the competition for gold, silver and bronze is sure to be hard-fought.

Here are the U.S. team members who list their hometowns in PPL Electric Utilities’ service territory, according to the official website. We’ll be rooting for them. If we missed anyone with ties to our area, we also hope to see them on the medal stand:
