As part of our ongoing You Ask, We Answer campaign, we’re answering questions we frequently receive from customers. Today’s question is one that many customers have asked at some point or another — usually, about two minutes after the lights go out.

Why don’t I have power at my home or business?

During outages, our customers are often interested to know what’s caused them to lose power. The best way to find out is to check the outage map on our online Outage Center, at pplelectric.com/outage. Click on the icon that represents your outage, and you’ll see information on the cause – if we have it in our system.

If there is no cause listed for your outage, it’s probably because our crews in the field are still assessing the problem and haven’t yet entered that information into our system. The outage map will also include an estimate for your restoration time – again, if our crews in the field have completed their estimate.

Our outage alerts, which are available by phone, email, text message or a combination, will also include information on the cause of an outage if it is available. To set up your preferences for receiving outage alerts, visit pplelectric.com/alerts.
