The idea blossomed as a way to call attention to safety and remind our employees why it’s important to work safely.
And with a little nurturing, the Safety Tree mural at our Walbert Learning Center, near Allentown, became a growing tribute to the co-workers, relatives and friends that our people keep in mind as they work each day.
Nearly 150 people over the past year signed leaves and added them to the mural that carries the message “Working together side by side.” Each leaf carries the name or names of people who inspire our employees to work safely.
We plan to continue the tradition in 2017, and hope to double the number of people who add their names to the tree. Our employees are also invited to add pictures of the people who inspire them to work safely.
It’s just another way to advance the safety mindset and promote discussion about working safely.
“It makes me feel good that so many people took the time to think about it and put a name up there,” said Paul Ward, director-Technical Development and Improvement. “I think it shows that people see safety as much bigger than themselves. It’s about family, friends and co-workers who are impacted by the decisions we make and how safely we work.”
