Our energy efficiency business programs recently paid off for two organizations in our service area.

Sapa Extrusion North America received more than $344,000 in rebates, and expects to save more than $350,000 on annual energy costs going forward, as a result of participating in energy efficiency programs we provide.

PPL officials presented a check for the rebates June 6 to Sapa officials at the company’s Cressona plant.

Sapa took advantage of our energy efficiency programs to replace more than 1,200 high-pressure sodium and metal halide lighting fixtures inside the Cressona facility. Those fixtures were replaced by 300- and 400-watt LED installations. The upgrades are expected to save Sapa more than $350,000 in energy costs and 4.9 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

“As a company, we place a priority on sustainability and environmental responsibility throughout all of our operations,” said Charlie Straface, business area president at Sapa Extrusion North America. “We’re pleased to have worked with PPL Electric Utilities to make plant improvements that will significantly reduce our energy use and help us to operate more efficiently.”

We managed the application process and oversaw the upgrades for Sapa. This helped the company get the most benefits while minimizing the time and resources needed on Sapa’s part.

“We encourage all types of businesses, as well as residential customers, to find out more about programs and rebates available to them,” said Amanda Morrison, PPL key account manager. “We can help our customers make significant efficiency improvements.”

Also, we recently recognized Jim Thorpe Area School District for energy efficiency upgrades completed at buildings throughout the district.

At a school board meeting June 12, our  representatives presented the district with a check for more than $34,000, representing rebates for district-wide updates to energy-efficient LED lighting.

The upgrades are expected to save the school district more than 680,000 kilowatt-hours of energy and more than $40,000 in energy costs per year.

Through its energy efficiency programs, we offer rebates for energy efficiency improvements to both business and residential customers.
