PPL volunteer helps flag fly high at veterans’ memorial
The flag at one local veterans’ memorial is flying high in time for Veterans Day, with help from one of our employee volunteers.
We were recently asked to lend a hand at the veterans’ memorial in Scott Township, Lackawanna County, which is located at the township headquarters building.
The pulley on top of the pole was broken, and hiring a contractor would have been costly. (A PPL retiree, Joe Trumpikas, helped build the monument and contacted us for assistance.)
Jeff Hobbs, field supervisor T&D at the Carbondale Service Center, recently volunteered his time to fix the pulley and install a new rope. Hobbs isn’t a veteran, but he enjoys supporting community projects and is a frequent volunteer.
“We appreciate Jeff’s volunteer time and effort, which ensured that this community landmark is once again in good condition to honor our veterans,” said James O’Farrell, field manager-Distribution Operations.
