New process to obtain ice, water after emergency storms
The process by which our customers can obtain ice and water following emergency storms has changed.
Customers who have been without power for 24 hours or more as a result of emergency storms can now purchase ice and water from any local vendor at their expense and send us the receipts. We will provide a credit to their PPL account.
This replaces the previous system in which customers had to obtain ice and water from specific vendors in their area. This system offers customers more flexibility.
Each customer can purchase a maximum of three 10-pound bags of ice and three gallons of water per day. Additional purchases will not be eligible for an account credit.
Customers should mail their receipts to:
PPL Electric Utilities
Attn: Ice and Water
827 Hausman Road
Allentown PA 18104
Customers should also include their account number.
How about the fuel reimbursement to heat ur house with a generator or giving generators out to borrow
What about food. Just went food shopping friday morning 300 dollars right out to the garbage man.
Same here, spent alot of gas just staying warm in the car, now plus the generator. Just went food shopping and lost it all a full fridge. The hotel.
You can usually claim lost food in your homeowners or rental insurance.
With a 1000 deductible…not sure it makes sense
I don’t pay a deductible for my food loss. I just get the money deposited next day. I have USAA.
About to have the same problem….3 gallons of water and some ice don’t add up to the groceries I’ll have to throw away
How about the fuel we purchased for our generators when we were out of power for 38 hours ?
I am not a lover of my utility company, and I understand the frustration of not having electricity, but it is not the utilities responsibility to do any more than fix the problems.Providing ice and water is fair under the circumstances.Use your noodle and keep advised at this time of year before going to the grocery store. This storm was predicted. They were right on about it’s severity.I too have food in peril of spoiling.Just spent the night in a hotel.Suppose they should reimburse us for that too.Our next big purchase will be a whole house generator.Time to be more self sufficient.Imagine what it was like before we had electricity.Time to resort to roughing it mode.
Thank you PPL. I may not take advantage of this but I do see your crews out there working hard and it’s appreciated! Stay safe all of you working hard to get our power back. And as for the rest of you asking for ridiculous amounts of compensation, they owe you nothing. Everybody is brave behind their phones and keyboards.
Homeowners will cover food .
I called my insurance. First you have to meet your deductible.
It’s winter time use your head you can place food and most items in a cooler outside in the COLD
Not safe to eat frozen food that has thawed out for long periods of time / so setting it outside won’t help/ Your homeowner insurance should cover any expenses or losses that occurred because of the storm.
Hope it does not get cold enough to freeze my pipes
Thank you for the hard work. Got power Sunday morning. Thank you very much again….
It’s not the power companies fault. You might be able to claim loss to home owners. Thankful they are working as fast as they can.
we didn’t see any trucks in our area for days…without power for 6 days…very slow process
How would people know how to get water and ice if there was no power or internet…? would anyone know to save receipts?
we have been without power since Friday but we have a generator, although not ideal we are surviving. Wish the repairs were completed already but I’m sure that the guys/girls out there doing the work wish for it more than I.
We appreciate all of your efforts, please keep up the good work and STAY SAFE.
P.S. the water and ice refund is a great gesture, we will not be taking advantage of the offer but THANKS!!!
My grandson in law has been out cutting trees on downed lines since yesterday afternoon with cat naps in the ulity truck . Please pray for all the safety of the crews working to restore power with out proper sleep. I know how exhausted he was last storm they don’t stop just go from one location to the next
It’s a little late to get the info on the Ice, as I (we) was with out power to get to the web page, no usable computer, no wireless router, etc – tried calling but was on automatic hold for over an hour on a hardwired landline before I gave up. Good to know for next time.
I did proactively call around to some vendors that had dry ice (that PPL had arrangements with from the last storm) but they were sold out. Ice usually doesn’t cut it – dry ice is a much better option.
Also, why is it that every……single…..stupid……storm….. that rolls in our neighborhood in Cetronia – we’re without power. The neighbors across the street always seem to have power – thankfully the neighbors are friendly and they charge my rechargeable lights, cell phone, etc.
However, While only missing power for 2 days/nights – their estimate of Wed Mar 7 – we got power back on Sunday.. YEA.. Thanks for beating the estimate. I do appreciate all of the hard work that is done to get the power back….
I’m leaving the camp stove, kerosene lights and candles out and readily available – so when our neighborhood loses power I’ll be ready, I borrowed some extra coolers so I can pack my food in the coolers and use the snow for ice.
Does the receipt need to specifically say water or ice?
Terrance: If your receipt doesn’t say water or ice, please circle those items on the receipt and label them as water or ice. Thanks!
