Many people are surprised to hear that socks are the least-donated clothing items and yet the most in-demand for needy locals.

However, thanks to employees around our service territory, 1,725 pairs of warm, cozy socks have been donated and will be distributed to people in need. The goal for the campaign had been 1,000 pairs.

In the Harrisburg area alone, 398 pairs of socks were collected and distributed to the Bethesda Mission. (Pictured at right: Harrisburg Field Supervisor Mike Summers helped collect and distribute socks in his area.)

“The Mission was so grateful to all the employees of PPL,” said Laura Minnich, steno-clerk general. “Our donation will make an immediate difference in the lives of the people the mission serves.”

In the Lehigh Valley area, Peaceful Knights, the Allentown Rescue Mission, and veterans groups benefited from the sock drive.

Rob Hodge, president of PPL’s Christian Business Resource Group employee group and coordinator of the drive, was equally impressed by the generosity of employees.

“It’s a blessing to work for PPL and with such generous and compassionate people!  It’s awesome that our company encourages a culture to empower others and impact lives in such a positive way,” said Hodge. “This sock drive is just one simple example of how our employees step up to help others in their communities. We had people from around the company contribute to this effort which benefited hundreds of people in need.”
