When is Lineman Appreciation Day, anyway? It depends on who you ask.

Some say Lineman Appreciation Day falls on April 18, as the result of a bill passed by U.S. Congress that set that holiday declaration for April 18, 2013. The bill didn’t say that every April 18 would be Lineman Appreciation Day, but some in the electric industry continue to celebrate the one-time holiday as an annual event.

Others set July 10 as the day to celebrate and honor field workers. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Edison Electrical Institute have joined forces to recognize line workers that day. According to the IBEW, the July 10 date honors one of the organization’s founders – a lineman in Washington, D.C., who died on the job in 1896.

We think the difficult work of line workers and others in the field deserves recognition every day. And we appreciate the kind words that customers have for our linemen – especially during and after storms, when work conditions are at their most challenging.
