Our employees and their family members stepped out May 6 to support the Walk MS Allentown, an event for which PPL Electric Utilities served as presenting sponsor.
The event raised money for research into multiple sclerosis, which disrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body. Walk MS events across the country have raised more than $1 billion for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society since 1988.
The Allentown walk drew about 1,000 participants and raised more than $130,000 prior to the event. Organizers expect donations to reach $150,000 once gifts made on the day of the event and afterward are counted.
About 70 people connected to PPL – employees, family members and friends – took part and raised more than $4,100.
“I was thrilled with all the support we received, and very pleased with PPL’s strong turnout and generous donations,” said Kristine Maciolek Small, director – Diversity, Inclusion, and Talent Management in Corporate HR.
“Medical research supported by Walk MS events is already helping people with MS lead better lives. The contributions to the Allentown walk will help advance that work still further,” added Maciolek Small, who is living with MS.
In our 29-county service area, other Walk MS events have already taken place or are scheduled in Scranton, Williamsport, Hershey, Bloomsburg and Lancaster.
