When you flip a light switch or charge your phone, you probably don’t think about how electricity gets to your home or business. But behind the scenes, a powerful and reliable transmission system is working 24/7 to deliver the energy you need safely, efficiently and affordably.
At PPL Electric Utilities, our transmission lines are the highways of the electric grid. They carry large amounts of electricity over long distances, connecting power generators — including clean energy sources like solar and wind — to local communities across Pennsylvania.
So, why does transmission matter to you?
It Keeps the Lights On
Transmission helps us deliver power where it’s needed most. It strengthens our ability to reroute electricity during storms or equipment issues, improving reliability and reducing outages.
It Helps Keep Energy Affordable
By linking our system to a wider range of energy sources, transmission gives us flexibility to deliver power at the best available prices, helping manage costs for customers.
It Connects You to Clean Energy
Many renewable energy sources are located far from towns and cities. A strong transmission network enables us to bring that clean, sustainable power to your neighborhood.
It Supports Growth and Innovation
Transmission plays a vital role in economic development by powering advanced manufacturing, tech companies and large-scale operations that rely on dependable electricity to thrive.
We’re investing in a stronger, more resilient transmission system to meet today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow. Because when the grid is strong, our communities are strong too.

It is well understood. But what about safety? There is a huge tree, probably hit by a lightning long ago, it grows split in 3 parts. A disaster about to happen because is right under a transformer and I already saw minor explosions coming from that let us without power for a day. And a month later…the same! But nobody has done anything about the tree. The owner says she has been calling for a year and nothing. I cannot enjoy my back yard in panic.
Good afternoon Beatriz, We appreciate you reaching out with your concern. We conduct routine tree trimming to remove trees & branches that are affecting wires that run from pole to pole, but not those running from the pole to your home. Please call us to report the tree on the wire at 1-800-342-5775 (say trees on wire during the prompts.) If you have our 10-digit pole number available for the closest pole that would help our team.
Last summer there was an accident with the electrical wires, and other wires when the farmer came off the field, didn’t realize the height of his equipment, snagged the electrical wire at the transformer box, ripped the wires down and took along with them two utility poles. We and our neighbors were thinking we’d be without electricity for a few days. But, within an hour, the repair crew arrived, hooked up our house to a generator and began work on the repair. I watched most of it and was very amazed at the efficiency and expert work done by the crew. The crew worked into the dark night hours until all was done. I was very impressed. Thank you. I do have 1 question. The black telephone wire, that we don’t use is still dangling from the poles. Is it ok for us to cut that off?
Good afternoon Boni, We appreciate you taking your time to provide your feedback and the details regarding the efficiency of the outage restoration. The crews will be extremely grateful for your recognition of their work as this is what they strive to accomplish. Please contact us weekdays 8am-5pm at 1-800-342-5775 (say hanging wires during the prompts) or call our Service Team at 1-877-220-6016. The Representative will take the information to create an investigation report to resolve this issue. Thanks!
Thank you for putting this info out to your customers. All along Reservoir Rd I Richland township are dead ash trees waiting for a good wind to knock them all down. Just an observation that makes it weary driving that road even in good weather. So best to check it out. Mine rd is another bad one. Thanks for listening. Hope something gets done about them.

Ya can’t have it both ways. Everyone (almost) agrees, the best thing for the environment, is to transition from coal & oil to heat pumps etc. However, they require massive electric power, particularly, with competing energy resources of AI. So, where’s all this electric necessity coming from? Wind mills and solar NG
