Unplug. Get connected.

Turn off the devices and turn up the fun
Connecting to people on our phones and computers is great, but sometimes we forget the rewards of just being with the ones who matter most—friends and family. Taking the time to cook a recipe or play a game together helps deepen our relationships and create memories. Studies show that tech devices cost the average household about $191 every year to run.* Over time, unplugging could help you save energy and money.
Unplugging from technology has many benefits, including:
  • Relieving stress

  • Increasing productivity

  • Improving sleep

  • Enhancing creativity

  • Gaining energy savings

Want a few fun activities to help everyone relax, recharge and save? Check out our playful projects to help you start reconnecting today.

Make your own snow dough

No snow for the kids to go out and play in? Make your own inside where it’s nice and warm. You can build mini-snowmen and no one needs to bundle up!
A mini-snowman made of snow dough

What you’ll need to do:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of cornstarch and 1/2 cup of conditioner.
  2. With a stick or spoon, stir together.
  3. When your dough is smooth (not too wet and not too dry), it’s ready to handle.
  4. To keep your “snow dough” fresh, put it in a tightly sealed container.

Build a rocket launcher

Love anything that flies? Here’s a simple rocket launcher you can make with just a few items around the house. Countdown to liftoff!

Instructions:

  1. Cut four slits about 1/2 inch long in the top rim of a plastic cup. Put a piece of tape under each slit to keep them from splitting.
  2. Cut two rubber bands so that you have two long strands, not loops.
  3. Tie a knot in each end of the rubber bands and slide them through the slits.
  4. To launch your rocket, put a plain cup (open end down) on the ground. Push the rubber-band cup down on top of the other cup and let it go.

Make breakfast while you sleep

Want to wake up with breakfast waiting for you? Try making our oats recipe together the night before, saving you time and energy.

Ingredients:

  1. Mix rolled oats with an equal amount of dairy or nondairy milk, yogurt or even juice.
  2. Mix any spices, sweeteners or dried fruit you like into the oats and milk.
  3. Store in a glass jar or another airtight container and let the oats soak for at least three hours, ideally overnight.
  4. In the morning, you can add honey, fresh fruit, nuts and other favorite toppings to your oatmeal.

Here’s a tip: Mix the oats in a nearly empty peanut (or almond) butter jar for extra flavor!
