Be on alert for energy marketing scams

Be on alert for energy marketing scams

Scammers often pick up their efforts during times of high inflation. They’ll tell you that if you switch and purchase your electricity supply from them, you’ll save tons of money. Sometimes, they aren’t being truthful. We want you to stay vigilant and know how to identify scammers, so you can stop them in their tracks.

Some of the deceptive and misleading tactics that energy marketing scammers use include:

  • Misrepresenting themselves
  • Misrepresenting supplier status
  • Misrepresenting facts
  • Misrepresenting pricing
  • Misrepresenting their true intentions

We want to help keep you and your personal information safe. Here’s what you need to know:

  • We DO NOT market or sell supplier services by phone or door-to-door.
  • Don’t always trust your caller ID.
  • Only return messages and calls from us at our official phone number: 1-800-342-5775.
  • Create an online account.
  • Update your account with a security PIN or password and NEVER give it to anyone who calls you.
  • Keep your email address and phone number up to date.

Recycling pays off

Hanging on to an old fridge or freezer? It may be collecting more than just dust. According to ENERGY STAR®, keeping a second fridge in your garage or basement could add up to $80 a year in unnecessary energy costs—and even more if it’s an older model.

Luckily, our $50 recycling rebate makes it easy and rewarding to say goodbye. Just schedule your free fridge or freezer pickup and we’ll come haul it away to be responsibly recycled. Plus, you can also get $10 for each working dehumidifier or room air conditioner.

Benefits of recycling your fridge or freezer:

  • Save space and energy.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Safely dispose of hazardous materials.
  • Save more than $220 in lifetime energy costs by replacing it with a new ENERGY STAR certified model.

Hot temperatures can impact your comfort and your energy costs. Keep cool and save with these helpful tips from our friends at ENERGY STAR® and rebates from PPL Electric Utilities.

1. Consider an HVAC upgrade. If your cooling equipment is more than 10 years old or needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are going up, it may be time to replace the system. Get rebates of up to $450 on ENERGY STAR certified cooling equipment through PPL Electric.

2. Install a smart thermostat. An ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat saves energy by adjusting to your schedule and favorite temperatures. You can even control it right from your phone. We offer rebates of up to $100.

3. Insulate and seal air leaks. Feeling different temperatures from room to room? Updating insulation and sealing air leaks can keep the hot air out and improve the efficiency of your cooling system. Save with rebates of up to $700.

Budget Billing 101

Budget Billing 101

Let’s be honest. There are certain times of year when we use more electricity than usual. Summer – with all its cooling and often extra hours spent at home – is one of those times.

If you don’t want to get surprised by a larger-than-normal electricity bill, consider smoothing out your payments to make them more predictable.

Budget billing is available to everyone, even if you’re already on a payment agreement.

Here are the details:

We’ll take the average of your electricity use over the past 12 months to determine your monthly budget amount. If you’ve lived in your current location for less than six months, we’ll estimate your use based on your household information.

Every three months, we’ll look back at your use and, if necessary, adjust your budget amount. If you’re using more electricity than expected, your bill might increase. If you’re using less, it might be lower.

After 12 months, we’ll settle the difference between your actual energy use and the amount you were billed.

Sign up for more predictable payments and peace of mind at pplelectric.com/budget.
