Wind storm: Latest updates on our response

We're responding to outages caused by heavy winds

Power outage? Text “outage” to “TXTPPL” (898775) or report it here.

January 16 at 12 p.m.

Our crews are working through final restoration efforts and will have customers restored by 5 p.m. today. Since Friday, we’ve restored power to more than 128,200 customers. We want to thank our customers for their understanding, as well as our crews, contractors and support staff for their dedication during the storm.

Weather has remained calm since yesterday’s heavy wind, which has helped us continue restoration efforts throughout the day. We’ve restored power to more than 124,600 customers since Friday. At 3 p.m we had about 3,200 customers with remaining outages.

We’ve updated our ERTs and now expect most customers to be restored by 11 p.m this evening, with the rest by 3 p.m. tomorrow.

If you’re still without power, check out the list of available warming stations below.

Sunday afternoon’s heavy wind caused extensive damage across our territory resulting in additional outages. Our team is working to assess that damage and determine how long it will take to make individual repairs. Once damage is assessed, you may receive an updated ERT.

Since the start of the storm, we’ve restored power to approximately 119,000 customers. As of 7:30 a.m. this morning, there were 6,273 customers without power. Our crews will keep working until all customers are restored.

January 14 at 7 p.m.

After a long week of stormy weather, heavy winds caused widespread outages across our territory Sunday afternoon. Since the start of this storm on Friday, our crews have restored power to nearly 94,000 customers. As of 6 p.m. today, there were approximately 32,700 customers without power.

We’ll work as safely and quickly as possible to assess damage and restore power to all customers who are impacted. We’ve called in additional resources to help with restoration efforts, including line workers, foresters, damage assessors, electricians and call center staff.

We understand it’s especially difficult to be without electricity as temperatures decline. We’re gathering information from our Emergency Management Partners to share available warming stations.

Thank you, PPL for getting our power back on so quickly (in about 7 hrs) after we had received the estimates of 48+ hours for repairs. Appreciate your crews doing very hard work in adverse conditions.

We understand, Regena. If your freezer stays closed, food should stay fresh for at least 12 hours. Our crews will keep working until every customer is restored. Thank you for reaching out.

Hi Laura- It’s possible our team was evaluating damage nearby and determining what materials were needed to make repairs. Outages can affect main power lines, individual circuits or both. It may be that your individual circuit is damaged – or, your location could be on a different main power line than the one a few miles away. We may also need to isolate a small section of line to work on a problem, even while power has been restored to homes close by. The best way to stay informed about your outage is through PPL alerts. Adjust your preferences at pplelectric.com/alerts to get a phone call, text message or email with updates. Thank you.

Please switch your main breaker on and off to see if power comes back on. If it’s not restored, please call 1-800-342-5775 to report it. There could be an individual issue with the line feeding power into your home.

Albrightsville is not mentioned. I need to know when power is restored to that area. I have a flooded basement because the sump pump is not working due to the power outage.

Thank you for your work to get our power restored after 6 hours. At first we were told that we would be out to maybe Tuesday. Happy it was a lot sooner especially with a,number of people in my neighborhood on oxygen. What a relief for them

The estimated fix time of 11:00pm tomorrow night is unacceptable. You should have your systems updated so that a delay that long is impossible… wind? It’s not like a nuke went off. Figure it out you all should be fined for this in this type of weather/temperature.

I see the number of people without power rapidly decreasing and I give you guys a lot of credit. I am inquiring about the outage around Kennel Rd in Saylorsburg. I’m hanging in there but it’s brutally cold and I suffer from bad anxiety and panic attacks. Please please, please don’t make me wait until Tues night! I literally can’t sleep.

When I heard the power still was not on at Homestead Family Campground at nine last night I called. The woman said that she didn’t have 1150 Allentown Rd. as being without power. I said, but it’s showing it in the affected area on your map! I asked could you please please get somebody out there right away? These people are in campers and it’s a lot colder than in a house and the pipes will freeze. I had applied for alerts from PPL but I did not get any but one of the guests staying there let me know that the power came back on at 10:20 PM. They had been without power from 3 PM… thank you for your service.

Most of my neighborhood is back online but several of us are still not. It is 40° in my house; we’ve had no power since 1:00 pm on January 14th. Where are the warming centers for Cumberland county? Can our pets come to those centers? Why does most of my neighborhood have power but several of us don’t?

I’m just curious as to what’s different with this wind to other storms we’ve experienced. I’ve lived in the same place for 4 years and I’ve never had so many problems with losing my electric. It’s not even windy out currently and my power keeps flickering. Please, for the love of god, get it figured out. It is January and your customers give you millions upon millions of dollars monthly. There’s no reason any of us should be without power and heat.

You have to do better PPL. Allowing customers to be without heat on the coldest week of winter so far for 48hrs is unacceptable. My husband works for a utility company and 2 days with no water would never be acceptable. I see no warming stations in Monroe county listed. And I haven’t received one update from ppl

Hi Chad – It’s important to assume all downed wires are energized and to stay away from them. We’re sorry to hear you had difficulty reporting this over the phone. You can report an outage, as well as a downed wire, at pplelectric.com/outage. Please let us know if you’re still experiencing an outage. You can send us a private message on Facebook or DM us on Twitter with your address and phone # so we can look into this further.
